The TLI National Road Race Championships

E-mail Print PDF

The National TLI Road Race Championships took place on Sunday the 15th August. A fine day in Yorkshire, held at Boroughbridge on a 7.5 miles circuit. The first time ever in Yorkshire.
The race started with 4 groups. As the race went on, groups merged with other groups, which gave major headaches to the line judges.
Manx Viking Wheelers were well represented, as were Liverpool Mercury bringing along a large contingent.
There was an excellent junior catagory, with under 16 juvenile, Joshua Knights ( Royal London 360 ) doing well within the junior race. Some good rides were done by juniors Luke Simpson ( Leeds St. Christopher ) and Daniel Young ( Glendene cc) with Thomas Mazzone ( Manx Viking Wheelers ) getting the Gold.
In the Senior race, a Yorkshire win for Cottingham Coureurs Matthew Fenton, with 19 minute man Adam Duggleby ( i-ride.co.uk ) settling for 3rd.
18 year old Gabby Shaw ( Team Chevin/Bang&Olufsen ) took Gold in the under 40 ladies race. With Miriam Freemantle ( Team Tor 2000 ) winning the over 40 ladies race.
In the M1 race, Airedale had 2 riders on the podium. John Oldridge in 2nd and Hamish Robertshaw in 3rd, a first time for Airedale, with Robert Dooley ( Manx Viking Wheelers ) winning the Gold.
In the M2 race, Paul Bethell ( Team Elite/Paul Bethell Electrics ) took the Gold. Simon Bridge ( Leigh Premier RC ) finished 2nd with Howard Heighton ( Ferryhill Wheelers/Mountain High RT ) missing out on the placings, but he has been riding well all season in Time Trials.
Craig Anderson ( Blackhawkbikes.com ) took Gold in the Espoir group ( under 23's ).
In the A group race, Roy Sumner ( Port Sunlight Wheelers ) retained his title, winning in North Wales last year.
In the B race, a good ride by North Midlands TLI Regional secretary Rob Blackburn ( J.E.James RT ) who took the Bronze with Paul Stubbs (Ferryhill Wheelers/Mountain High RT ) winning Gold.
Alan Kemp ( Weaver Valley cc ) in the E race, a man who has been a revelation this season, winning almost all he has ridden, retained his title from last year.
Pete Matthews ( Liverpool Mercury/Dolan Cycles ) also retained his title in the F group.
In group G, local rider, Bryan Bliss (Ferryhill Wheelers/Mountain High RT ) had to settle for Silver to Ralph Waker (Macclesfiels Wheelers ) who has done quite well through out the country. This his 2nd win in Yorkshire in the last couple of months.
75 year old John Dowell (cc Portvence ) won the H group.
A big thank you to Airedale members and friends of Airedale for turning out to help. And to John Bethell, Nigel Harrop and Geoff Readman from the TLI for their invaluable help. All who did a magnificent job.
